Something to Crow about: a look back

In 2025, the Wagga Shakespeare Club presented a unique theatrical experience that brought laughter and raised vital funds for the Kooringal Rotary Club. Discover the story, the setting, and the spirit behind "Something to Crow About."

A frivolous frolic through Shakespeare's life

The Wagga Shakespeare Club took a rare and delightful step into production with "Something to Crow About," a frivolous fulsome frolic through the life and writings of the Bard, Will Shakespeare. This wasn't your typical Shakespearean drama; it was a total spoof on some of Will’s better-known works, infused with slices of his family life alongside his Mum, Dad, wife Anne, and daughter Susanna. This unique production offered a fresh, humorous perspective on the legendary playwright.

An immersive Elizabethan experience

Back in the 1500s, Shakespeare performed in a variety of venues, from theatres to alehouses and stately homes, where audiences used their imagination to visualise scenes. We recreated this ambience for "Something to Crow About," immersing the audience in an Elizabethan era experience. The show ran from July 18th to 27th at The Thirsty Crow, with evening performances at 7 pm and Sunday matinees at 1 pm. A meal was served with the show, with tickets priced at $55 and available for booking through the Wagga Civic Theatre Box Office.

Community spirit and charitable giving

Sponsored by The Thirsty Crow and performed in the alehouse section, recently christened Will’s Alehouse, "Something to Crow About" was more than just entertainment. The Wagga Shakespeare Club proudly presented this show as a fundraiser for the Kooringal Rotary Club, with all proceeds raised from the show directly benefiting their vital community work. We extend our gratitude to The Thirsty Crow for their sponsorship and continued support of the Wagga Shakespeare Club.
